Hi guys,
John Catherwood here - yes the monkeys are thinking, (after all they have the Right Stuff, pace Searle) but more importantly, can someone from the Society contact me to let me know a bit more about what the Soc is up to - I have to go to a SSCC meeting next week and they expect to be told...
best
John
I have my doubts about the monkey-thoughts. I mean, they can't have propositional attitudes, only differential reactions to environment. The weakest way to make my point would be to say that they have 'thoughts' but not nearly unlike ours. Stronger would be to say that because they don't think like we do, they don't do what we mean when we say 'think', they don't think at all. Bubbles is totally thoughtless.
